R & R Club (Research & Relax - 8 to 17 yo) Minimize

R & R (Research & Relax) Club is an after-school 'club' for school students giving FREE access to the Internet for research, to help with homework or studies in general.

Are you aged 8 +??

Would you like to…

  • Use the Internet after school – FREE??
  • Play computer games??
  • Have fun with Playstation??
  • Have fun with Wii ??
  • Enjoy end-of-term activities??

Research & Relax

Aim of the club:
To encourage students to become regular and frequent independent library users. Membership of the club enables young people to have access to a range of specialised facilities, services and activities.

Things to remember:
A green R & R Club card is issued free to any students wishing to join in with these after school activities. Cards must be shown to library staff in order to access services and attend special events.

Ask the staff for details of how to join. Hope to see you after school !

Rhythm & Rhyme (0 to 2 yo) Minimize

Come along to Rhythm & Rhyme and enjoy 30 minutes of fun with your baby.

Simple stories, rhymes and songs provide a baby’s first introduction to the world of language.

Sharing books, puppets, and music together with your baby in a friendly environment is an ideal way to encourage the development of language as your baby grows.

Rhythm & Rhyme also provides the opportunity for you to meet other parents, caregivers and babies.

Sessions are held:

  • Proserpine Library: Thursday mornings 10.30 - 11am
  • Beach Library: Monday mornings 10.30 - 11am

Storytime for children between the ages of 2 -5 is provided weekly at:

  • Proserpine Library: Tuesday mornings 10.30 - 11am
  • Beach Library : Monday mornings 10.30 - 11am

It is important that parents and care-givers sit with their children to gain maximum benefit from each session.

Your child can benefit from:

  • Hearing the sound and rhythm of language in stories selected especially for this age group
  • The experience of socialisation with other children
  • The stimulation of new ideas and interests
  • The development of language and motor skills

You, the parent or caregiver, can benefit from:

  • Observing your child's interaction with stories, activities and other children
  • Familiarisation with literature appropriate to your child's age group
  • Meeting other parents with children of a similar age

Each week a theme is designed to complement everyday events in a young child's world, and initiate interest and imagination by presenting new experiences through literature.

A great activity booklet, incentive prize draws and a party celebration at Whitsunday Regional Libraries, are all great reasons to join!

What's it all about?
Each year, the State Library of Queensland coordinates a Summer Reading Club for children and their families.

This holiday, join our four intrepid environmental warriors, Thiele the whale, Needles the echidna, Croak the frog and Snap the bilby, in exploring a special world of paradise, and conservation, through reading, writing, games and activities online or at your local library.

Find a rich array of activities that have been divided up into 4 groups:

  • Level 1 - for 0-4 year olds
  • Level 2 – for 5-7 year olds
  • Level 3 – for 8-11 year olds
  • Level 4 – for 12-16 year olds
